A Chinese martial art created by 5 masters around 400 years ago, combining the most pragmatic and direct elements from their styles to make the most efficient and intelligent self defence system. Wing Tsun has many facets and elements that together give the full art its life.
Translating as sticky hands Chi Sau is seen as the soul of Wing Tsun. Through contact and feeling it teaches you to increase response time and energy transfer through eliminating thought from the process, learning to absorb and recycle others energies whilst adding your own in response.
Wing Tsun has two weapons within its system the traditional Long Pole- Luk Dim Boon Kwan (Six and a half Point Pole) and the Eight Cutting Knives Form - Bart Cham Dao (often referred to as Butterfly Swords but they have a different design in WT). Both have their own form to learn the movements, mechanics and control needed to apply them efficiently and dynamically. The Luk Dim Boon Kwan with a length between 2.5 and 3 metres, cultivates full body power, stability and structure with the six and a half points representing the key techniques trained in the form. The Bart Cham Dao form uses its eight sections to train the main techniques, strategies and footwork for using the knives in self defence and combat.
The Muk Yan Chong Fat- The Wooden Dummy functions to not only strengthen the muscles of the practitioners limbs and the management and enhancement of the basic movements it develops and influences the construction of the fighting concepts of the Wing Tsun techniques. The height and angles of the dummy limbs all strictly control the measurements and movements of the practitioners arms, legs and body, in the improvement of the fighting concepts. Most importantly it develops footwork, navigating around the dummy using Mui Fa Chong Bo ( Plum Blossom Pattern Steps).
The images and videos here in the gallery and throughout the website are representing all levels of learning from beginners to masters and instructors and assistants. This is to give a fuller idea of our schools make-up, showing the work in progress of these levels. Perfection is sought but never attained being a philosophical principle attached to Wing Tsun that believes that while absolute flawlessness is impossible the pursuit of it leads to excellence and continuous improvement. The journey rather than the destination is the source of growth. Achievement through time and hard work being the Kung Fu mantra.
Training Wing Tsun is done through various methods, in regular large group classes, topic specific seminars with gradings and 1-1 or small group sessions. Each has its own depth of focus and detail, allowing all students to learn at the speed and intensity they desire.
